Explore… the world of Vampirates
Before I sat down to write the first Vampirates novel, I spent a lot of time (about five years to be precise!) creating the world my characters would inhabit. The stories are set roughly five hundred years into the future. But this isn’t the future we might expect or want for ourselves. In many ways, it feels like time has gone backwards and technology, rather than developing, has been lost.
In the 500 years between now and when the story begins, the sea levels have risen. As a result, there’s a lot less land and a whole lot more water. And as a result of this, there’s a new dawn of piracy. The oceans are teeming with pirate ships and other more mysterious ships besides. In this strange new world, there are taverns and even a school for pirates. There are “blood taverns” for vampires too, and places where vampires can seek help in controlling their all-consuming hunger.
Come with me now on a voyage of some of my favourite places that make up the world of Vampirates…
Crescent Moon Bay
The Diablo
The Typhon
The Nocturne
Pirate Academy
Ma Kettle’s Tavern
Sanctuary
